Morning departure from Split (or Dubrovnik). Together with local driver-guide Split to Dubrovnik, we start panoramic ride along the Dalmatian coastline. After 2 hours drive to our first stop, Pelješac Peninsula and the town of Ston. Famous for the longest stone wall in Europe (5.5 km), salt cultivation farming and oyster growing farms, since Roman times. The city walls with 5km in length, are the longest defensive structure in Europe. They are sometimes referred to as the “European Walls of China”. Following extensive renovations, the walls were open to visitors. In Ston visit the local salt factory. Interesting is the ancient salt pans that were in use during the Dubrovnik Republic. Salt is still produced here. After time in Ston, we continue with our tour towards the Pelješac peninsula.
Together with driver-guide, we will take you one-hour ride through wine-growing region of “Dingač”. You will get a great insight into the local life and traditions from your driver. A wine-growing tradition has been part of the local culture for centuries. The highlight of the trip is a visit to a local winery “Miloš”. The production of grapes and wine in Ponikva has been a family tradition for many generations. Production is based on the indigenous variety of Plavac Mali. Today, Miloš winery owns 15 hectares of vineyards on some of the highest quality positions of the Pelješac Peninsula. In the winery, they make different types of wine: dry, semi-dry, semi-sweet, and natural dessert wines. In the family-owned house, we have a presentation and tasting from the owner.
Refreshed after local winery experience, we are going to have lunch in one of the local restaurants where you can taste “traditional Croatian cuisine”. At the seaside promenade in Mali Ston, in the medieval salt storage room, there is a restaurant called “Bota”, which is an old name for an arched ceiling. Oyster as a symbol of this area. Together with crabs and fish are stored according to original Ston recipes from the time of the Dubrovnik Republic. Homemade bread, grilled fish, stews, risottos & homemade desserts of this region will impress you and return to the past glorious times of this region. After lunch, we are ending this day in Dubrovnik (or Split) and expected to arrive in Dubrovnik (or Split) at 4.00 pm.
