''A gastronomic and cultural walk through the ancient Dalmatian town of Split''

This Private Tour of Split starts at the Split green market, called ‘’Pazar’’, located on the eastern side of the city walls, a place where urban meets rural and they blend together. Welcome drink at the market, a home-made liqueur called ”Rakija”. That’s right, the Croatians can make a Rakija out of anything, even a truffle, honey, a pine tree?! In Croatia, we have an expression ‘If you can suck anything out of it, you can make Rakija with it’. After Welcome drinks, taste cheese, ajvar, prsut (prosciutto) and a more aged sheep’s milk cheese, together with home-baked bread. We shall also taste soparnik – traditional specialty protected by the geographical origin on the territory of the EU. It was protected in 2007, but it has been popular since forever.

During the next part of the tour, we continue a walk through the center of Diocletian’s palace. You’ll explore the untouched basements, make your way to the central Peristyle square and visit what was originally Diocletian’s mausoleum and is nowadays the second oldest building structure in the world still used as a cathedral. Over 1,700 years old! After the short walk, we are in the great restaurant called ”Makarun” very well known for handmade pasta “macaruni”. Taste two types of homemade pasta makaruni with a local red and white wine.

Save some room for a traditional Dalmatian desert made by hundred years old secret recipes. The Kirigin family on the wall proudly holds a master’s degree from 1934, which is probably enough to say. This little gem of a pastry shop is a perfect place to end our food tasting tour!
