Split and Trogir Driver Guide Tour Including old town walking tour from Split

"Explore two UNESCO Heritage Sites of Split & Trogir with a visit to Salona!"

Departure Point: Hotel pick up and drop-off from Split and outside of downtown Split (Please advise your exact pick-up location upon confirmation), If you’re arriving by cruise Your guide will be waiting for You in front of your ship for a touring of the local areas!

This Private Tour of Split sets off at the main waterfront Riva in front of the south wall of Diocletian’s Palace where you’ll see the full view of its scale and hear how and why the Diocletian palace was built. We will enter the substructures of the palace, which are a prime example of great Roman architecture. This takes us back to where the story begins to the times of the ancient Roman Empire. In the fourth century A.D., when the Roman emperor Diocletian retired, he built a residence for his golden years here in his native Dalmatia. From the Diocletian’s cellars, we continue to grand Peristyle square and Vestibule – the entrance hall to the private rooms of the emperor. The tour also includes visits to former emperor’s mausoleum and Jupiter’s Temple which was converted into the baptistery. Over 1,700 years old!

Later we will forward to a city of Trogir where we will take you into the past time by retelling the stories and legends of Trogir. Greek, Roman, Venetian history on a small island connected to one, make this one of the most interesting historic oasis on the Adriatic Sea. On the entrance into the St. Lawrence Cathedral, you will see it’s a majestic portal of Radovan, the most significant medieval portal in this part of Europe. After we will come to the Tower of Kamerlengo, which was the Venetian governor’s palace. While strolling through this interesting city which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, this tour will give you the best introduction to its importance and impressive sights.

On our return, we will visit the ancient Roman ruins of Salona. Salona dates back to the 2nd century BC and had all the infrastructure of all other Roman towns and reached its peak in the 3rd & 4th centuries AD, due to the fact that it was the birthplace of Emperor Diocletian. You’ll see the defense walls, aqueduct, basilicas, thermal baths, theater, sarcophagi, amphitheater, and more interesting sights. Seeing Salona puts the whole Roman era into perspective.

A delicious lunch can be organized at an authentic farm to table restaurant to try some of the best traditional Dalmatian cuisine!
